Istanbul on Tuesday means Topkapi is closed. Six stops still run, and afternoon or full-day tours swap in the cistern at no extra fee. Istanbul on Tuesday is a clear Plan B day: Topkapı shut, six stops still open, and the cistern already in the afternoon and full-day price. Morning from 125 euros barely changes. Standard from 230 euros keeps the Vito and lunch. Deluxe from 290 euros adds the boat or Balat. Same products sit on Colina. Open one cart. If the Harem is non-negotiable, move the date or add a night. Airport cars stay 45 and 50 euros per vehicle.

Istanbul on Tuesday is one closed palace, not a cancelled city. Topkapı and the Harem shut. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque between prayers, the Hippodrome, the Basilica Cistern, the Grand Bazaar, and Süleymaniye or Gülhane still run. On Hagia Sophia Travel afternoon, standard and deluxe days the palace ticket becomes the cistern ticket at no extra fee. Minimum two adults. Maximum six. Children 0 to 5 are free. Ages 6 to 11 pay half. Listed tour prices are before VAT. TÜRSAB 16602.
The booking traps on our partner brand are Istanbul on Tuesday. This page is which Hagia and Colina checkouts to open, and which ones to leave alone. How many nights you need if the Harem is non-negotiable is how many days in Istanbul.
Istanbul on Tuesday is six open stops
Treat Tuesday as closed for Topkapı unless the ministry calendar for your date says otherwise. Confirm the week you fly on the Ministry of Culture museums portal. Then walk the ridge, not a second taxi to a locked gate.
| Stop | On site | Tuesday note |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Mosque | 35 to 45 min | Open between prayer pauses. Friday is the long close |
| Hippodrome | 20 to 25 min | Outside. No ticket |
| Hagia Sophia visitor gallery | 60 to 75 min | Open. Ticket already in our morning, afternoon and full-day prices |
| Basilica Cistern | about 40 min | The indoor swap for Topkapı on afternoon and full-day products |
| Grand Bazaar | 45 to 60 min | Open Tuesday. Closed Sunday |
| Süleymaniye or Gülhane | 35 to 45 min | The hill or park that replaces the palace courtyards |
The cistern is not the Harem. Forty minutes is not 165. We say that on purpose. Guests who came for the Harem should move the palace day off Tuesday or add a night. Istanbul on Tuesday still earns its keep when you keep the six stops on one hill and finish by about 17:00 with legs left for dinner.
Friday is a different problem. Midday prayer lengthens the mosque pause. Sunday closes the Grand Bazaar. Do not mix those three dates in your head. Tuesday is the palace. Sunday is the covered lanes. Friday is the long prayer.

Which checkout still holds
One Tuesday, one sightseeing cart. Open either the Hagia page or the Colina page for the same product, then finish one.
| Hours | From | Pay on Hagia | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 08:00 to 13:00 | 125 euros | Morning | No Topkapı on this product. Meet Sultanahmet |
| 13:00 to 17:00 | 165 euros | Afternoon | Cistern instead of Topkapı. No hotel Vito |
| 09:00 to 17:00 | 230 euros | Standard | Vito, lunch, cistern Plan B, bazaar open |
| 09:00 to 18:30 | 290 euros | Deluxe | Same swap, plus boat or Balat |
The same four products also sit on Colina. If that cart is already open, pay the twin there: Colina standard or Colina morning. One brand only. Morning never included Topkapı, so Tuesday barely touches it. Afternoon and full days use the cistern Plan B at no extra fee. Custom stops are paid on Colina’s planner. Do not tick Topkapı on a Tuesday cart. Free cancellation sits on the tour pages, up to 24 hours before pickup.
The two-night Tuesday trap
Fly in Monday evening. Fly out Wednesday morning. You have one full day. If that day is Tuesday and the palace was the point, the trip failed on the calendar. Fix it by shifting a flight, adding a night, or accepting the six open stops as the interior day. Three nights give you room for an open palace day and a Tuesday ridge: the 3 day itinerary.

What not to do
Do not drive to the palace gate and argue. Do not buy a second cistern PDF when the voucher already swapped the ticket. Do not stack Dolmabahçe after the cistern. Do not keep a Sunday bazaar promise on a Tuesday voucher; the bazaar is open Tuesday and shut Sunday. Do not open a Hagia full day and a Colina custom day for the same morning. Istanbul on Tuesday fails when the inbox still says Topkapı and the feet still walk to a locked door.
A driver who claims a side entrance on a closed day is selling hope. We sell the cistern ticket that already replaced the palace on afternoon and full-day vouchers. Say the closed day out loud before you pay. Then the guide is not the person who has to invent a city at 10:00.
Book the cars anyway
A closed palace does not shorten the airport. Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet is 48 km, 45 to 60 minutes, 45 euros for the vehicle, up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, Gate 9, point CEO 34. Sabiha Gökçen is 65 km, 75 to 95 minutes, 50 euros, pillar 10. Book Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet before you fly, and the return on Sultanahmet to Istanbul Airport the same sitting. We want you at IST about three hours before an international departure, and at SAW four hours or more. A Wednesday morning SAW ticket is an early pickup, not a second museum.
Five steps, then pay
First, admit Topkapı is closed. Istanbul on Tuesday starts there.
Second, choose morning if you only have the square hours, standard if you want the Vito and lunch, deluxe if you also want the boat or Balat after the ridge.
Third, open one Hagia or Colina checkout for that product. Finish one cart. Two live carts for the same cistern slot help nobody.
Fourth, if you are building the day yourself, tick the cistern on the planner and leave the palace off. Watch the minutes. The Harem was 165. The cistern is 40. Fill the gap with Süleymaniye or Gülhane, not a second taxi.
Fifth, book the airport cars as separate confirmations. Type the hotel name as on the room booking. A Wednesday SAW departure is a 07:00 pickup problem, not a museum problem.

Common questions
Is Istanbul on Tuesday worth visiting?
Yes. The city is open. The palace is not. Use the six stops on this page, or move the Harem to an open day if you can add a night.
Is the cistern included automatically?
On afternoon, standard and deluxe products that already included Topkapı, yes, at no extra fee. Morning never included the palace, so it does not include the cistern either.
Is the Grand Bazaar open?
Yes on Tuesday. No on Sunday.
Can I still book the morning walk?
Yes. Meet in Sultanahmet. No hotel Vito on that price. Hagia Sophia ticket is in.
Where do I build a custom Tuesday?
On Colina’s planner. Tick the cistern. Leave Topkapı off.
Should I still book airport transfers?
Yes. The road does not care about museum calendars. Book the arrival and the return before you fly.
Open the standard or afternoon tour linked above for a Tuesday that still needs a guide. If the list is yours, pay it on the planner, with the arrival and the return already saved.
